Are You Getting the Internet Service You’re Paying For?

When we’re upgrading someone to a new Sonos system, one of the first questions we always ask is:“How is your internet service?”
The most common answer we hear is, “It’s great—we have the top service.”Unfortunately, when we actually test the internet speed, we sometimes find that it’s much slower than what the client is paying for.
The good news? It’s very easy to check your internet speed yourself.
How to Check Your Internet Speed
On your phone, open a browser and Google “Test My Internet Speed.”
When the speed test page opens, tap Run Speed Test.
In just a few seconds, you’ll see your download and upload speeds.
Be sure to compare those results to the speed plan you’re paying your internet provider for.
One Important Tip
It’s always a good idea to run the speed test in multiple locations throughout your home. This helps you understand your overall Wi-Fi coverage, not just your internet speed.
Keep in mind:
Your speed will almost always be highest near your router.
Slower speeds in other rooms often point to Wi-Fi coverage issues, not an internet service problem.
Why This Matters for Sonos
A Sonos system relies on a strong, consistent network connection for:
Streaming music services
Grouping rooms together
Reliable control through the Sonos app
Poor Wi-Fi coverage can cause dropouts, delays, or inconsistent performance—even if you’re paying for high-speed internet.
The Bottom Line
Make sure you’re getting both the internet speed and the Wi-Fi coverage you need. A quick test in a few locations can save a lot of frustration.
