What Is Sonos 27?

If you own a Sonos system, you're going to start hearing a new name—Sonos 27.

Sonos 27 is the name Sonos has given to the operating system that has been working behind the scenes for years, connecting your speakers, rooms, services, and controls into one system.

This fall, Sonos is adding several exciting new features that will make your system even smarter and more flexible.

One of the most interesting additions is Portable Surrounds. With Sonos 27, a matching pair of Sonos Move 2 or Sonos Play portable speakers can be used as wireless rear surround speakers with a compatible Sonos soundbar. Place them behind your seating area and they automatically become part of your surround-sound system. When you're finished watching TV, simply pick them up and use them elsewhere. Bring them back into the room, and they automatically return to their surround-sound role.

Sonos 27 also introduces deeper integration with the new Sonos Ace Ultra headphones. With Headphone Linking, you'll be able to move audio between your Sonos system and your headphones, making it easier to take what you're listening to with you without interrupting everyone else.

Another major addition is Sonos 27voice, which brings more natural, conversational voice control to Sonos. Instead of having to remember specific commands, you'll be able to speak more naturally when asking Sonos to play music, adjust playback, group or ungroup rooms, and more.

Best of all, Sonos 27 will be available as a software update for Sonos S2 products, although some of the new features will require specific Sonos products.
