If you’ve opened your Bose SoundTouch app and noticed one of your speakers or amps is “grayed out,” it usually means the device has lost its network connection. The good news? You don’t have to start over — there are a few easy steps to bring it back online.

Step 1 – Start with the Basics

  • Unplug the SoundTouch product for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router to refresh connections.

  • Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your SoundTouch system.

  • In the SoundTouch app, swipe down to refresh the device list.

Step 2 – Reconnect Over Wi-Fi

  1. On your SoundTouch device, press and hold Preset 2 + Volume Down until the Wi-Fi light begins blinking.

  2. In the SoundTouch app, choose Add a System.

  3. Follow the prompts to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Step 3 – Use the Ethernet Quick Fix

If Wi-Fi setup is being stubborn:

  • Plug your SoundTouch unit directly into your router using an Ethernet cable.

  • The product should reappear in the app within a few minutes.

  • From there, go to Menu → Settings → Speaker Settings → Wi-Fi to update your Wi-Fi details.

  • Once confirmed, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.

Step 4 – Special Notes for the SoundTouch Amp

The SoundTouch Amp powers passive speakers, so when it’s offline, you lose audio in an entire zone. To reconnect:

  • Use the same Preset 2 + Volume Down setup method.

  • For the most reliable connection, keep the Amp hardwired via Ethernet if possible.

  • After reconnecting, double-check the room assignment in the SoundTouch app.

  • If the Amp is being repurposed, you may need to remove it and re-add it to your account.

Step 5 – Update the Software

Outdated firmware is a common reason for dropouts. Once the device reconnects, check the SoundTouch app for available updates and install them right away.

Step 6 – Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If all else fails:

  • On most SoundTouch products: hold Preset 1 + Volume Down for about 10 seconds until reset.

  • On the SoundTouch Amp: hold Preset 1 + Volume Down until the Wi-Fi light blinks.

  • Re-add the product in the app as if it were new.
