Can I Add Rear Speakers to My Soundbar?

For various reasons such as décor or budget, clients have opted to install a Soundbar in place of a full 5.1 surround sound system. Although a quality Soundbar such as a Sonos Arc or Bose Soundbar 700 sound great, for some people that have had 5.1 surround sound system, find they miss the full home theater experience that the rear speakers deliver. For those clients, adding rear speakers to their Soundbar is a great solution. With the Bose Soundbar, due to Bose propriety operating system, the rear speakers must be the Bose Surround Speakers 700. With a Sonos Soundbar, there are more options. The simplest option is adding a pair of Sonos 1 speakers. Please note with this option, since these are powered speakers, each will need an electrical outlet and hiding the wires may prove difficult. Another option with the Sonos Soundbar is adding any pair of 3rd party in ceiling or in wall speakers powered by a Sonos Amp. Bose 591/691 speakers work well for this application. To upgrade the rear speakers, use the Bose 791/891 speakers. Using the Sonos amp to power rear speakers is great way to turn a room with an existing pair of music speakers into a full home theater system by adding a Sonos Arc Soundbar, a Sonos Sub, and a Sonos Amp.
