Yes—Sonos has announced a new multi-room amplifier that is expected to be available in the fall of 2026. This amplifier will be sold through authorized dealers.

The new multi-room amp features 8 assignable channels and is designed to be rack-mountable. “Assignable” is the key feature, it allows you to dedicate multiple channels to a single zone when needed. For example, if your outdoor area has 8 speakers, you can assign 4 channels to properly power that one zone.

From an installation standpoint, the multi-room amp is very flexible. It can be installed in a rack or placed on a shelf, depending on your setup. When used with the Sonos rack-mount kit, it takes up just 2 rack units, and the rack kit is specifically designed to allow for proper airflow above and below the amplifier when installed in an equipment rack.

From a cost perspective, the multi-room amp is priced at about $100 less than four individual Sonos amps, making it a smart option for larger systems.

So, when does it make sense?

  • If your system has 4 or more music zones, the multi-room amp is typically the better choice.

  • If you have 3 zones or fewer, individual Sonos amps are usually the more cost-effective option.
