How Can I Get Music Throughout My Home?

For better or worse, the pandemic has caused us to see how we can make our homes a better place to be. For many, easy accessible music playing through the home is very appealing. For others, not wanting to go to movie theaters, converting the basement or spare room to a home theater is a good solution. This week we will discuss music throughout the home. Next week we will revisit home theater systems. For music in your home, there are basically 2 options, wireless set-top boxes or in ceiling/in wall speakers. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages and both are easily controlled by an app on your phone. The primary advantage of wireless speakers is cost with equipment being cheaper and the installation being programming. The downside of wireless speakers is the speakers are out in the open and don’t easily blend into the home’s décor. Also, wireless speakers do not add value to your home. On the other hand, in ceiling/in wall speakers easily disappear into a home and add value. The downside is cost. In wall/ceiling speakers require amplifiers and the speakers that need to be wired to them, which adds cost to the installation. There are a couple of points to remember when designing a home audio system. First: Outdoor Living Spaces require a wired solution. There are no wireless speakers that can be left outdoors. Second: there are products that can serve multiple purposes. For example, selecting the right Soundbar will not only enhance your TV sound, but also function as a music system for that room. This is a great solution for a Master Bedroom where you want music and better TV sound. Remember, the Soundbar must be compatible with the other components of your whole house audio system.
