A Sonos Soundbar can be used or easily upgraded to a 5.1 Home Theater system with the addition of rear speakers. There are 2 choices for the rear speakers, surface mounted Sonos powered speakers such as a pair of Sonos One’s or in wall speakers powered by a Sonos amplifier. There are significant differences between the 2 options including cost, aesthetics, and installation. The Sonos One speakers are the less expensive option if you have electrical outlets nearby. The cost of a pair of Sonos One speakers is $398. The cost of a pair of Sonos in-wall speakers and a Sonos amplifier is $1,348. Although the cost differential is significant, the aesthetic aspect of the Sonos One speakers may outweigh the cost benefits. As a powered speaker the Sonos One has a powered cord that can’t be run inside a wall. As a result, the powered cord will be visible on the outside of the wall. The Sonos One speakers are best used when placed on tables with electrical outlets nearby. The in-wall speakers are flush mounted and blend into your walls. Since the in-wall speakers are powered by an external amplifier, which can be hidden anywhere, the speaker wires between the speakers and amplifier can be run inside the walls. On average, in wall installation costs about $200 more than surface mounted speakers. For help with designing your Home Entertainment schedule a free consultation by calling 888-775-2673.
