A client recently asked whether Sonos in-ceiling and in-wall flush-mount speakers can be installed in existing ceilings and walls, and what the process involves. The answer is yes—they absolutely can.

Installing the speakers themselves is relatively straightforward. Sonos architectural speakers are designed with built-in "dog ears," which act like toggle bolts. Once inserted into the cutout, the dog ears clamp the speaker securely to the drywall with a simple twist—no rough-in brackets or mounting kits required.

The more challenging part is running the speaker wires. These flush-mounted speakers are not wireless—they require a physical connection to an amplifier. Routing wires through existing walls and ceilings can be tricky and should be left to a trained professional. With the right tools and experience, an installer can usually complete the job with minimal disruption or damage to your home’s interior.

For a clean, professional finish, always trust an experienced installer to handle the wiring and placement.
