Sonos or Bose?

This year, this question continues to be asked more and more. The conversation usually goes: “I have always had Bose systems and really like the sound but my friend says we should try Sonos because Sonos has a great app and offers more music options.”

What most people don’t realize is that you can have the best of both and don’t need to decide. Your system can have Sonos and Bose products. At Whitaker Brothers, most of our designs have Bose speakers to capture the “Bose Sound” powered by Sonos amps, which gives you the Sonos app and their wide variety of music choices. The key to using both brands is to understand that different music platforms, such as Sonos, Bose Soundtouch, or Bose Music, don’t work together but properly matched products do. For example, you cannot integrate a pair of Bose outdoor speakers and Bose amplifier with a Sonos Soundbar. Another example is for someone that wants a true 5.1 home theater system like a Bose Lifestyle 650 system but wants to add a couple of Smart Speakers in the Kitchen and Master Bedroom. On the surface, it may appear this can’t happen since Bose no longer offers Bose Soundtouch Speakers and Sonos doesn’t make a true 5.1 system with 5 separate speakers. Remember, the new Bose Smart Speakers operate on the new Bose Music platform and the Bose Lifestyle 650 system operates on the Bose Soundtouch platform. Bose Soundtouch products and Bose Music products DO NOT work together. The solution for this client was to add a Sonos Port to the Bose Lifestyle 650 system. With this, music from the Sonos app can play through the Bose Lifestyle system. At Whitaker Brothers, we are both certified Bose and Sonos dealers. This allows us to offer our clients the best of both manufacturers. For help in designing your next audio-video-smart home system, call 888-775-2673 for your FREE CONSULTATION.
