What Should I Do With My Old Bose In-Wall Volume Controls?
Older Bose systems installed before the introduction of individual room remote controls often used in-wall volume controls to adjust the sound in each room. When upgrading to a new Sonos system, these volume controls are no longer needed. Clients often ask us what they should do with them.
It’s important to understand that these volume controls are installed inside the wall. If they are removed, they will leave a hole that needs to be covered or repaired.
There are three options:
Leave them in place. We can disconnect the wiring and simply leave the old volume controls on the wall.
Replace them with a blank wall plate. The volume control can be removed and the opening covered with a blank plate.
Remove them and repair the wall. The volume control can be removed and the opening patched by a contractor.
We often recommend the first or second option, depending on which look the client prefers. Then, when it’s time to repaint the room, the volume control or blank plate can be removed and the wall repaired before painting. Most painting contractors can take care of the wall repair as part of preparing the room for painting.
