Why Do I Need a Separate Sonos Amplifier for Each Music Zone?

With more and more of our customers upgrading their older Bose Lifestyle Home Entertainment systems to a new Sonos system, we are often asked why do a need a separate amplifier for each music zone. Let’s first review a music zone. A music zone is a defined space inside or outside your home that plays the same music at the same volume simultaneously. Each Sonos amplifier can power 4 speakers. These 4 speakers can be in the same area of the home, such as a large Great Room or Outdoor area, or in 2 different spaces in a home such as the Kitchen or Dining Room. The important key to remember, if the 4 speakers are in different spaces of your home, these 2 spaces will operate as a single Music Zone, playing the same source at the same volume. The reason for this is that the amplifier is controlled by the Sonos app for source selection and volume. To do this, each amplifier has a unique IP address that allows the app to address each Music Zone independently. As a result, the multiple independent amplifiers provide you with full control of your Home Entertainment system.
