Can I use my old Bose in wall volume controls with the new SA-5 amplifiers?

Many of our clients are ready to upgrade their old Bose BIV Home Entertainment systems with new Bose Soundtouch products. For those of you that have the older BIV systems, you are familiar with the Bose in wall volume controls that look similar to wall lighting dimmers. Many have asked if these old volume controls can be used with the new Bose SA-5 Soundtouch amplifiers or any other 3rd party multi-room amplifier. The answer is no. The reason is the older Bose volume controls, unlike all other in-wall volume controls, are not wired in line between the speakers and the amplifier. The Bose volume control was wired with a low voltage wire directly to the amplifier. The volume of the new Bose SA-5 amplifier is designed to be controlled solely by the Bose Soundtouch app. All other 3rd party amplifiers use in line volume controls.
