A Good New Year’s Resolution

As we get ready to move into the New Year and make all our New Year resolutions, one you may want to add to your list is to check your Wi-Fi network and upgrade if necessary. Many received Christmas gifts that require increased internet speed and bandwidth. These gifts include new Smart TV’s, Gaming Devices, Streaming Music Devices, iPads, and Smart Doorbells, just to name a few. As an example, your Smart TV in the Great Room streamed Netflix fine, but will it handle the new Smart TV in your Bedroom? Does your new X-Box need more bandwidth to see the enhanced graphics? For most homes, 100mbps will meet your family’s needs. A quick simple test to measure your speed is to go to Fast.com on your phone. This will automatically test your speed. Be sure to test your speed in multiple locations, starting near your router and then throughout your home with multiple streaming devices in use. If you are getting sufficient speed next to your router but the speed drops off the further you get from the router, you don’t need a bigger package from your internet provider, but you do need a better router or access points in your home.
