Can I Connect a Turntable to My Sonos System?

This past week we had 3 clients that had recently upgraded to a Sonos system ask if they could connect a turntable to their new system. The answer is yes. A turntable can be connected to a Sonos device with a line level input such as an Amp, Play 5 (Gen 1 and Gen2), Port, Five, Connect, and ConnectAmp. An important exception is when you are using a Sonos Amp to power rear speakers in a 5.1 home theater configuration. In this configuration the line level input is disabled. Unless you have a Sonos Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB Turntable, a phono pre-amp is required. For the Five and Play 5, you will need an RCA to 3.5mm cable to make the connection. Connect the 3.5mm end of the cable to the line input on your Sonos device and the RCA end to the turntable or the phono pre-amp. For Amp, ConnectAmp, Port, and Connect, you will need an RCA to RCA cable. Connect one end of the RCA cable to the line input on your Sonos device and connect the other end to the turntable or phono input. To listen, start the turntable, open the Sonos app, select browse and tap line-in. You can also set the Sonos app to auto play which will automatically select the turntable when the turntable starts playing.
