Can My Bose Lifestyle System Still Be Used or Upgraded with Sonos?

As more of our clients upgrade their Bose home music systems, one of the most common questions we hear is whether their existing Bose Lifestyle system can still be used—or even upgraded.

The answer isn’t a simple yes or no.

How a Bose Lifestyle System Can Work with Sonos

In many cases, a Bose Lifestyle system can be integrated into a new Sonos whole-home audio system by adding a Sonos Port. When a Port is added, the system remains a Bose Lifestyle system, but it gains a new music source, the Sonos streaming platform.

This allows the Lifestyle system to participate as part of a larger home music system and can help reduce the overall cost of upgrading to Sonos.

Important Limitations to Consider

While this approach works well for music, there are some downsides:

  • Many older Bose Lifestyle systems do not support 4K video and may not integrate properly with newer TVs.

  • Bose no longer manufactures or repairs Lifestyle systems.

  • When a Lifestyle system eventually fails, it will need to be fully replaced, not repaired.

The Bottom Line

Using a Sonos Port can be a smart way to extend the life of a Bose Lifestyle system and keep it part of a modern whole-home music setup. However, it’s important to understand the limitations—especially when it comes to video compatibility and long-term support.

If you’re unsure whether your Lifestyle system is a good candidate for integration or replacement, we’re happy to help.
