How Do I Create a Playlist in the Sonos App?

This week’s question came from a client who said, “I love my Sonos system, but how do I make my own playlist in the Sonos app?”
It’s a great question—because the Sonos app works a little differently than traditional music apps. Sonos doesn’t create playlists inside the app the way Spotify or Apple Music does. Instead, you can create what Sonos calls a Sonos Playlist, or you can play playlists that already exist in your streaming services.
Here are the ways to build your own playlist on Sonos:
Option 1: Create a Sonos Playlist
A Sonos Playlist lets you combine songs from different music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc.) all in one place.
To create one:
Play a song you want to include.
Tap the three dots (⋯) next to the song or album.
Choose “Add to Sonos Playlist.”
Select “Create New Playlist” or add it to an existing one.
Keep adding music the same way until your playlist is complete.
Option 2: Save Your Queue as a Playlist
If you’ve already built the perfect mix while listening:
Open the Now Playing screen.
Tap the Queue icon.
Tap the three dots (⋯).
Select “Save Queue as Playlist.”
Give it a name—and now it’s saved as a Sonos Playlist.
Option 3: Use a Playlist From Your Streaming Service
If you’ve already created playlists in Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc., simply:
Open the Sonos app.
Go to Browse or Music.
Choose your streaming service.
Select your playlist and press play.
If you want fast access, tap Add to My Sonos.
Quick Tip
Only Sonos Playlists let you mix songs from different music services in one list. For some clients, that’s a game-changer.
