My Older Bose Lifestyle System Stopped Working

As Bose Lifestyle systems continue to age, we've noticed an increase in service calls. This week, we had two calls about Lifestyle systems experiencing no sound. Interestingly, while the issue was similar, the causes were different. Before scheduling a service call, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Check the Subwoofer Connection: For older systems (pre-Lifestyle 600/650), ensure that the output cable from the console to the subwoofer is connected properly. This cable is essential as it transmits the signal from the console to the subwoofer, where the amplifier is located.

  2. Console Power Check: Verify that the Bose console is lighting up. If not, double-check that the power cord is securely connected to both the console and the electrical outlet. It's not uncommon for the power cord to be unplugged accidentally.

  3. Manual Power On: If the power cord is connected and the console still isn’t turning on with the remote, try turning it on manually. If the system works this way, the issue may lie with the remote. If it doesn’t turn on manually, the console is likely defective.

  4. Subwoofer Power Check: If the console lights up but there is still no sound, ensure that the subwoofer’s power cord is connected properly. If the cord is secure and there is still no sound, the problem may be with the amplifier inside the subwoofer.

Unfortunately, Bose no longer services these older Lifestyle systems. If your console or subwoofer is defective, your only option is to search for a used replacement on eBay. Just make sure that the replacement component is an exact match, as Bose consoles and subwoofers are not interchangeable.
