A client with an older Bose Lifestyle system that included Bose stored music contacted us this week. Unfortunately, their hard drive had crashed, and they wanted to know if we could repair it or recover the stored music. The answer, unfortunately, is no. Bose never offered an option to recover or download stored music, and they no longer repair these hard drives.
After delivering this unfortunate news, we did discuss some alternatives. If you still prefer to have your music stored locally, you can connect a third-party hard drive to the Lifestyle console. Just make sure that the hard drive you choose has output connections compatible with your Bose system. Keep in mind that you'll need to reload all your music onto the new hard drive.
For those who are ready to transition from stored music to streaming, adding a Sonos Port to your Bose Lifestyle console is an excellent option. The Sonos Port gives you access to over 100 streaming services, including Apple Airplay. It features multiple outputs that allow for easy connections to your Bose system, and you can control your music selection through the Sonos App. The Sonos Port is priced at $449 and is a fantastic way to add streaming capabilities without committing to a complete upgrade to a new Sonos system.
