Many client’s we meet have had their new home pre-wired during construction and want to know if the builder’s pre-wire will work with the new Bose systems. The answered is a qualified yes. For 5.1 home theater surround sound systems, most builders’ pre-wires will work fine. Builders usually terminate the speaker wires below the TV, which is where most people will locate their Bose console. With the new Bose Lifestyle 600/650 systems, the speaker wires connect to the Bose console. Be sure to confirm the builder used 18-gauge minimum speaker wire. The exception is the new Lifestyle 650 system, which requires 3 separate 2 conductor speaker wires for the center speaker. Most pre-wires only have one center channel speaker wire. Be aware 2 additional speaker wires will need to be added. Next week, we will review stereo pre-wires.
