What is 5G?

Much talk is starting to surface about 5G technology and our clients are now asking about 5G during our In Home Consultations. First, 5G stands for 5thGeneration of cellular technology. Developers of 5G are promising speeds of 10-100 times faster than current 4G or LTE cellular services. But it’s more than speed, 5G will reduce latency and allow more devices to be connected. Latency is the response time from clicking a link on your phone to when you actually see the website or the video starts. 5G is expected to reduce latency from 20 milliseconds to a single millisecond. The rollout of 5G started this year in a very limited manner and 5G coverage will increase in 2019 and should be available on a large scale in 2020. As with all technologies, proceed slowly, because there are sure to be changes and bumps along the way. Current smart phones are not compatible with the new 5G technology and the 1st5G smart phone will not be available until 2019. Please visit our website @ www.wbsouth.com.
